Epic Proposal Ideas in Alaska That Deserve to Be Photographed
May 31, 2025
So you’re thinking about popping the question… and you want it to be unforgettable but aren’t sure what would give it a little extra ✨sparkle ✨? These proposal ideas are 100% going to inspire you if you love adventure and are thinking Alaska might be the perfect destination for this surprise. Whether you’re both seasoned adventurers or just love the idea of something wildly romantic and out of the box, I’ve got you covered with these swoon-worthy proposal ideas and experiences across Alaska.
Let’s dive into the dreamiest ways to say “will you marry me?” in Alaska.
1. Propose With the Grizzlies in Hallo Bay or Brooks Falls
Picture this: You fly out to Katmai National Park to see the bears, you and your partner are over the moon excited watching grizzly bears catch salmon and just living their best lives, and then the cherry on top? You PROPOSE! How absolutely epic is that?! If you base out of Homer you can fly with Destination Alaska and have an absolutely incredible experience. Yes, it’s wild (literally). Think dramatic backdrops, thrilling adventure, and a story you’ll be telling for the rest of your life.

2. Sail Away on a Private Catamaran on Lake Clark
This isn’t just a proposal—it’s a full-on romantic escape. Charter a 3-night catamaran trip with Sailing Lake Clark, complete with a private chef, paddle boarding on glassy waters, and quiet moments in hidden coves. The best part? While you’re already in the area, you can ALSO book a guided tour to Katmai National Park to see the bears and explore even more of Alaska’s wild beauty. Propose under the midnight sun or on a secluded shoreline (or with the bears) on the first day and then spend the next two celebrating and soaking it all in. This idea is perfect for couples who want luxury and off grid adventure wrapped in one.

3. Beachside Proposal out of Homer, Alaska
Book a stay at Between Beaches for a perfect seaside experience. It’s a private beach area, just you and other campers, you get your own little cabin haven and a whole beach to explore, kayaks to paddle and a hottub to soak in at the end of your adventures. There are so many places you could pop the question on this adventure!
If you’re not quite to the full blown ideation stage of planning your proposal yet and want some more basics, this blog is a GREAT resource:

4. Water Taxi & Coastal Hike in Seward
If you’re ocean lovers and enjoy time in nature by the sea then hire a water taxi to a remote coastal trail near Seward (like Kyle & Rachel did, pictured below!). You can hike a bit or walk along the beach, reach an epic viewpoint, and drop to one knee with the ocean behind you. It’s quiet, intimate, and wildly beautiful.
5. Sailing Resurrection Bay Proposal Idea
Love the idea of sailing but not as far out as Lake Clark? Then Sailing through Resurrection Bay in Seward with Resurrection Bay Sailing is the way to go, and is breathtaking! Plan a private picnic onboard or stop at a nearby beach. I’ll blend in as part of the crew, camera in hand, ready to capture your surprise proposal the moment you drop to one knee. It’s fun, personal, and totally unforgettable.
6. Helicopter to a Glacier (or Mountain Top!)
With Outbound Heli Adventures in the Palmer area, you can land on a glacier or remote mountaintop for your moment. It’s the ultimate “just us” experience and the kind of setting that takes your breath away before you even propose. Then you can land at several other spots for more adventures depending on the tour you book. They have a champagne and strawberries add on that’s PERFECT for the occasion.
7. Matanuska Glacier Proposal Hike
Propose in the blue ice caves or on top of the Matanuska Glacier with a guided hike with Matanuska Glacier Tours. You’ll feel like you’re on another planet, and trust me—this one photographs beautifully year-round and is great if you’re not wanting to go the heli route.
8. Ruth Glacier in Denali with Sheldon Air
Fly over Denali and land right on the Ruth Glacier with Sheldon Air. This is one of the most jaw-dropping glacier landings you can do in Alaska. Imagine proposing with North America’s tallest peak watching over you. It isn’t the blue pools or ice caves you might think when you imagine a glacier landing, it’s a snowy glacier bowl with epic peaks surrounding it, the flight in and the views all around are totally unforgettable. This is very weather dependent.
9. Dog Sledding in Willow
Book with Snowhook Adventure Guides and take a dog sled tour through a snowy forest. Propose mid-run (we can stage a stop!) or at the finish, surrounded by your favorite furry friends. Cozy, fun, and totally Alaska. Then cozy up in one of their Hatcher Pass cabins to catch the Northern Lights (or, propose under the Northern lights!!).
10. Snowmachine to Spencer Glacier
Zip through snowy wilderness and arrive at Spencer Glacier by snowmachine with Alaska Wild Guides. This one’s thrilling, epic, and SO much fun. If you love winter adventures, this is a bucket-list-worthy proposal idea. It’s on the longer side (5 hours) but is toootally worth while and you get up to the front of Spencer glacier for beautiful blue ice. This depends on how cold it’s been throughout the winter and also the weather day-of.
11. A Hatcher Pass Proposal
There’s something seriously magical about Hatcher Pass, especially in the summer when the wildflowers are going wild or in the fall when the mountains are turning all shades of orange and red. Whether you hike to a tucked-away spot or plan a picnic near the lodge, this location has endless dreamy views. I know all the quieter corners away from the crowds (because yes, it does get busy!), and I’ll be there capturing the moment you pop the question with that epic mountain backdrop. There is a lack of cell service up here so it’s often easier to coordinate if you are familiar with the area in advance, but not impossible if you don’t. If you want to make it extra Alaskan you can book one of Hatcher Pass Lodge’s quaint dry cabins.
12. Train Ride to Girdwood, Whittier, or Talkeetna
Want to level up your proposal? Hop on the Alaska Railroad with your love and head toward a beautiful destination town. Girdwood, Whittier, or Talkeetna would be perfect short trips(you can go further to Fairbanks as well but for photo sake keeping it closer makes it easier to plan!). The scenery along the way is breathtaking, and yes, I can come along and get all the pretty photo!. Afterward, you can celebrate in town, grab lunch or dinner, or turn it into a weekend getaway.
15. Horseback Ride along the Knik River
Do you love horses and good views? Then this trail ride adventure with Alaska Horse Adventures is definitely for you! You can book a public or a private tour depending on what kind of experience you want (if you want a me along to photograph I can blend in on either one!). The private tour definitely allows more flexibility and privacy though!
14. On the Slopes at Skeetawk
If snow sports call your name and you’re avid skiiers or snowboarders, proposing on the slopes is the move! It’s such a fun way to showcase a piece of your stor and then you get to ski/snowboard the rest of the day! These two hit the mountains wall the time, so when it came time for a proposal Liam nailed it!
15. Sheldon Chalet Epic Stay and Proposal
This is definitely a very niche recommendation becauseSheldon Chaletis one of the most luxurious stays in Alaska. It’s off-grid in the Alaska Range right by Denali and has 360 views of perfect wilderness no matter the season. It truly is an experience like no other that will leave you in awe of this state. Propose right on the viewing deck, on a guided trek or over a private dinner, you really can’t go wrong.
These proposal ideas are truly just a taste of all the possibilities that exist for proposal ideas
