This romantic engagement session out at Beluga Point is one of my very favorites. This overlook is a super popular tourist (and locals) stop along the Turnagain Arm off the Seward Highway. When Bailey and Sam reached out before their trip to Alaska from Texas, we immediately started planning. We talked a little bit about location options and when Beluga Point came up it was an instant win! Turns out it is one of Sam’s favorite places to go, so it was a perfect fit.
Not only was I so excited to be a part of this adventure with them but they were as well. When they were searching for a photographer, finding a style that fit what they were looking for was a must, and Bailey mentioned that as soon as they saw my work, they were hooked! This made me so incredibly happy!
I love it when couples know what they want and aren’t afraid to go for it! Finding a photographer that jives with you not only style-wise but personality-wise as well is so incredibly important to ensure that you have the best experience ever.
Planning your engagement session at Beluga Point
Beluga Point while being a GORGEOUS location in general, has its ups and downs. I know it is a great spot to go and catch Beluga Whales at times, but timing that is pretty hard and I have yet to see any there (I have poor timing haha!). If you do your research and can drive out on a whim you may get lucky though. Anywho, the mountains paired with the ocean scape make for a beautiful backdrop for photos. With this beauty often comes frigid cold and viciously strong winds. I highly recommend checking the forecast multiple times before you plan to go out, especially for a photo shoot.
Wearing the proper attire for the entire photo shoot, or at least having it on hand, is also important. Whenever I know it’s going to be chilly I try to prep hand warmers ahead of time and always encourage jackets, hats, and scarves when necessary. Making sure you have proper rock walking footwear is also a good precaution in case we want to climb to some harder to reach spots, this depends entirely on the tide though.
All in all, Beluga Point is a beautiful place to consider for your engagement session.
